The Regional Coach
As a former
Rugby player the TEAM has always been very important.
In Diving I have always seen that the CLUB TEAM is vital to build, maintain and expand the Club. This starts with ‘nursing’ the new members, bearing in mind that they will one day, sooner than you think, be your Dive Buddy. This can be done by welcoming them to the club, being kind and considerate, taking time with them, keeping them informed and after the session buying them a pint (well maybe that is stretching it a bit!). The more established members also need support by regular contact by email and phone again remember these are your team, quite often nurtured by you and vital as Buddies, if you don’t give them support they will drift off and the first thing you will see is an advert ‘Diving kit for sale’.
At regional level there is no difference and at this level there is a great opportunity to further develop the TEAM by offering support to Clubs and individuals. This can be to assist and help where clubs have a shortfall of suitable or overworked instructors and also to help with Instructor development. Within the Region we have a wealth of expertise, knowledge and enthusiasm to help. This REGIONAL TEAM includes me, as Regional Coach, 15 Area Coaches, Skill Development Organisers, National Instructors, qualified Instructors and divers of all qualifications.
In
Wales we must develop our inter club relationships and develop this REGIONAL TEAM so clubs do not suffer or lag behind due to lack of resources or instructors.
Our aims are relatively simple and include:
Regional Training Weekends-----These will be run, in conjunction with the Clubs, to complete skills so divers can further develop.
Instructor Development-----To support existing instructors but also to assist instructors preparing for exams and for those building up for IFC, OWIC and AIC.
Regional Skill Development Courses to cover the fundamental subjects, as far as possible using Host Clubs in the North, West and the East of Wales to ensure an equal spread and keep travelling to a minimum.
To Support Developing Divers and Instructors to attain the qualifications at the highest level within the BSAC.
To get Clubs and Divers to work and dive together and have fun.
All very simple really but for it to work we need lots of help and support, if you want to know more or get involved either contact me on the Regional email or alanthomas-property@fsmail.net or by phone, in the day, 01239710790 or 07970462332.
By the way I am a member of Cardigan Sub-aqua Club, a First Class Diver, Advanced Instructor and active on the Instructor Trainer programme.
